A part-whitelighter is one descended from the pairing of a whitelighter and a human. Powers common for part-whitelighters are orbing and telekinetic-orbing, though it is not certain that part-whitelighters' active powers will come from their whitelighter heritage.

The union of a whitelighter and one of their charges was forbidden by the Council of Elders, and, as such, the offspring of these relationships were kept secret from them. However, after Paige Matthews was needed to reconstitute the Charmed Circle, the rule was lifted.

A half-whitelighter may inherit an active power from their witch half, but it may operate differently due to their whitelighter heritage (for example, Paige Matthews' destined telekinesis working through telekinetic-orbing, and Wyatt Halliwell's molecular combustion involving orbs). However, this is not always the case, as Prudence Halliwell III was able to use telekinesis, and both Kat and Tamora Mitchell possessed the powers of molecular immobilization and combustion respectively. Though many part-whitelighters possess, in addition, whitelighter powers such as orbing and sensing, a part-whitelighter may possess only witch-powers, such as in the case of Kat and Tamora Mitchell. Also, being part-whitelighter does not necessarily guarantee the power to heal.

History

Relationships between whitelighters and witches was forbidden by the Council of Elders on the account that having a family would distract them from their duty to guide and protect their charges.

Despite this, the whitelighter Alicia Neethey married Avery Marks and had four sons; Simon in 1976, and later Jeremy, Morgan and Forrester.

In 1977, Samuel Wilder and Patricia Halliwell entered a romantic relationship following Patty's divorce from Victor Bennett. On August 2, Patty gave birth to a daughter, who they subsequently gave up upon Penny Halliwell's urging. Her powers were bound, or at least suppressed, and she was adopted by Mark and Helen Matthews and named Paige.

Behind the scenes

• Despite Kat and Tamora Mitchell being a quarter-whitelighter, neither developed any whitelighter power in their early childhood, instead developing powers purely from their witch-halves, and not any hybrid such as combustive-orbing displayed by Wyatt Halliwell or the common gift of teleinetic-orbing.
